• This is an out-of-the box thinking on a way to stop / prevent excessive rainfall like the one which occurred in Chennai & Tamil Nadu recently. We cannot stop clouds forming / clouds not forming at all over a region .

                We know that rain bearing clouds are essentially saturated with water in the form of ice crystals which precipitate when there are nuclei particles around which the ice crystals / water droplets collect , grow and then precipitate . The formation of ice particles in super cooled clouds allows those particles to grow at the expense of liquid droplets. If sufficient growth takes place , the particles become heavy enough to fall as precipitation from clouds that otherwise would produce no precipitation .Artificial rain creation is done by increasing this nuclei by spraying silver iodide / dry ice etc.

                Hence , in order to stop a downpour we need to do the reverse --- ie. prevent the ice crystals / water droplets from conglomerating . Basically we need to disperse the collection of cloud over a certain area where the rainfall is / will be heavy to create disaster.

    It is common knowledge that when there is a high wind , the clouds are pushed away and rain does not precipitate . The surmise here tends to do the same thing artificially .



                Suppose there is a patch of black rain bearing clouds over a certain area. A hot air blast in the midst of the clouds will disperse the clouds in two processes :----

    1. The blast of hot air in all directions from the centre acts as wind in breaking the conglomeration.
    2. The hot air raises the temperature of the water molecules in the cloud transforming them back to the vapour state instead of precipitating as rain. Even in natural precipitation process , some of it gets evaporated on its downward journey . Our process forces this to happen at the cloud level itself .

    We know that cloud seeding for artificial rain is done by chemicals which may be dispersed by aircraft or by dispersion devices located on the ground ( canisters fired from anti-aircraft guns / rockets ). For release by aircraft, silver iodide flares are ignited and dispersed as the aircraft flies through the inflow of clouds.

                In our case the requirement is to disperse the crowded rain drops in the cloud ; A canister containing compressed hot air can be fired from the ground just like a missile ; the canister would be opened suddenly using a remote controlled device . The result would be a sudden expansion of hot air in the midst of the rain bearing cloud .

                Otherwise , a powerful jet of hot air can be dispersed by an airplane flying into the clouds ---- similar to silver iodide being dispersed by an air plane. But when the clouds are too heavy , it may not be safe to fly a manned aircraft into the clouds . Hence an unmanned drone can be used , controlled from the ground .


    Hot air dispensing to be done by a canister fired as a missile OR by a Drone airplane blasting hot air on top of the cloud.


                At least if this can be successful over the reservoir areas , the need for opening up the sluice gates to prevent reservoir overflow , thereby causing floods downstream can be avoided . This can be used in potential Cloud Burst areas , saving lot of lives .
